I created this shoe for Adidas South Africa. It lives alongside 6 other artists shoes at the new Adidas concept store in Cape Town V&A. The brief was to re-imagine sustainable footwear for the future. My focus and one of my favourite ways to create is to look at what I can re-use and up-cycle. There is so much potential in the items we have around us. If we open our eyes to see from a different perspective. An unravelled jersey is a new string and thread off-cuts coordinated in the right way can tell a story. I have challenged myself to create this with items I already own, or have on hand, making sure that I am genuinely repurposing and not playing lip service to the concept. Creativity before consumption. The insole is created with girl dust and the laces hook was a picture hook. The woven plastic was originally used to import rice from Thailand, and then to carry wood. All the beads have been collected from once-loved jewellery or gifted and the pins, like any sewstress, have been lying in a drawer helping me make clothes for years.
