Recently I was asked if I could be one of the artists that contributed to the United Nations to bring awareness to the first ever World Humanitarian Summit held in Istanbul in May.

I created a piece on a gate in a burn down car shop on Canterbury Street, Cape Town. (Massive thank you to Louis who gave me freedom to do as I pleased). A few people have asked if I use backing, or pre-sew it onto a fabric. I sew it straight onto the surface, exactly as I do with the rackets. My good friend Jono was there documenting the process and took these images. He also created this teaser video with music by Jack Fox.

“The ideas of boundaries and borders are very relevant today. Either feeling bound to them or trapped behind them; Our kindness and understanding depending on what side of the fence we are on. This to me speaks to ‘Prevent and End conflict’. If we look at the things that divide us differently, if we see our differences as opportunity we can see that we are all stitched together. We can find peace.”
